JPA is pleased to announce that we're sponsoring Goro Fuji (a.k.a. gfx) to work on Class::MOP and Moose. This project will run until the end of August, and in return for his services, JPA will sponsor Goro to attend the upcoming YAPC::Asia Tokyo 2009.
The focus of his development will be on performance loading and bootstrapping Class::MOP/Moose. We have set a target at 20% performance boost in comparison with Class::MOP 0.89 and Moose 0.87 (of course, if he can achieve better, we won't object :).
Goro has been working on this performance improvement since early July, and we've so far seen improvements of about 17 to 18%. We still have to propose and have the changes accepted to the master repositories, but we believe this is an excellent start.

I'd like to say thank you to both JPA and gfx for choosing to invest this effort in Moose =)

On behalf of the Moose devteam, I'd like to thank JPA very much for sponsoring Goro Fuji's work. Moose's startup penalty is one of the biggest flaws about it, so any work to alleviate it is very welcome. We look forward to working with Goro, who has already proven to be very productive. :)

Wow, this just made my morning! Much thanks to the JPA and Goro Fuji for diving in to help solve this problem.

This sounds like very exciting news! Are there publicly available git branches of Class::MOP and Moose that are being worked on? I see there is a lot of related information at http://d.hatena.ne.jp/gfx/ , but sadly I can only read the Perl and not the Japanese.
I wish Goro Fuji the best of luck in this project.
